I just finished up refreshing the 2016 WSOP qualifiers section here at SNG Planet, and noticed that there are a lot of other live events with online qualifiers at the moment. Instead of making individual pages for each (which tend to go out of date quickly), here is a blog post which gives and overview. There are some real gems around Europe. These include the WPT Amsterdam, Unibet Open Malta and Grand Poker tour Thessalonikki. Over in the US there is the World Series and WPT500 too.
First up, the World Series of Poker
Not too many details here, as a ton of info can be found on this page and the 5 linked articles covering geos, sites and side-events.
888 are the main poker site sponsors, and have really come good with their 6-stage qualifier system this year. You can buy-in at any point up to stage 6 – and win a shot at the $1050 super satellites which award $12,500 buy-in / expenses / hotel packages.
888 also offers a smaller side-event package.
With the $88 free play offer still running for new accounts, it is possible that you could get to Vegas this year for zero money. Check out www.888poker.com for more.
US WSOP Qualifiers: Only America’s Cardroom have qualifiers running so far. These are via $3 lottery Sit n Goes. When you do hit one awarding the Main Event buy-in + expenses, all 3 players will get one at the same time. See my US WSOP Qualifiers 2016 page for details of how these games work.
WPT500 at the Aria
The WPT500 is a great move from the World Poker Tour. This is a $525 buy-in event which runs at the same time as the World Series main event. With so many players in town, and the modest buy-in, the field for this event will be huge.
Dates are the 2nd to the 6th of July, and you can win a prize package which includes flights, hotel and buy-in from Party Poker.
You can also find the rest of the WPT schedule (via the ‘promotions’ tab) at www.partypoker.com
Live Poker Events in Europe Spring / Summer 2016
Another WPT event to start with, this one is in Amsterdam from the 6th through to the 14th of May. You can buy-in to online satellite qualifiers for as little as €1 over at Titan Poker. The prize package on offer is worth €2500 and includes €1500 for the buy-in + fees and expenses for travel and accommodation.
The Unibet Open is another popular event with a buy-in within reach of many amateur players. The next stop is in the popular poker destination of Malta on the 26th to 29th May. The buy-in for this one is just €1100, and the qualifiers for the games at Unibet are rumoured to be the softest you’ll find anywhere (I have yet to try them personally). You can check out the satellites, and the rest of the 2016 Unibet Open tour at www.unibet.com
Finally news of a new stop for an established and much-loved tour – the Grand Series of Poker. This is organized via Red Kings and the NYX (formerly OnGame) poker network. There are a lot of stops and also online championship events for the Grand. The next stop is also a combination of holiday and poker tournament in one go, it is held in the amazing Greek city of Thessaloniki. The dates for your diary are the 26th May to 31st 2016 – qualifiers are running right now at www.redkings.com
I will update this page when more news comes in of live events, so bookmark / favorite it now!
