The last few posts have all featured non-US topics, so I thought that I'd balance things today with a topic that should be of special interest to my US readers.
We are less than a month away from big milestone in the recovery of US poker after Black Friday. For the first time in 3.5 years, there will be an online poker tournament with a prize pool of $1,000,000 guaranteed. The date for your diaries is the 14th December (a Sunday). This post gives you a preview of what to expect, and outlines the different satellite qualifiers which are going on right now.
If memory serves me well the biggest tournament other than the ‘Winning Millions’ event over the last few years was a $400k Main Event at the Golden Spade Open at Bovada.
This one will be held on the Winning Poker Network, via America’s Cardroom.
There is some interesting history here. America’s Cardroom are the rebranded ‘Doyle’s Room’ (he exited after Black Friday). The Winning Network is also rebranded, it used to be known as the ‘Yatahay Network’.
ACR and the Winning Network are currently 4th in the traffic rankings, with only Bovada, Merge (Carbon), and Chico ahead of them. They do offer a flat 27% rakeback deal (a rarity these days) in addition to their other bonuses and incentives. More than 600 Satellite Qualifiers
In addition to the daily list of qualifier tournaments (which are running now), there are ‘On Demand’ satellites which start as soon as enough players have sat down. There are also opportunities to win seats through the two progressive leaderboard contests known as ‘the Beast’ (for cash games) and ‘Sit N Crush’ for SNGs.
There are sub-qualifiers which caught my eye. These are $1 (rebuy) and $5 (rebuy) games which award seats in the nightly $109 qualifiers. You can also go via a daily $20+$2, which again awards the $109 seats. There are sub-sub-qualifiers for just 28c and even a freeroll (with a paid rebuy option) too.
This is a win-win for me… as a player you can win by hitting games with guaranteed seats, the site gets to ensure that the field is packed for the big event on the 14th.
Someone is going to walk away with the $200,000 first place, and if you know ACR at all then you’ll figure that one of the many recreational type players you find 1000’s of will (statistically speaking) get lucky!
