With the Main Event of this year’s World Series about to get underway, it is safe to say that you are a little late for online qualifiers. There are plenty of live tournaments coming up (though to be fair not with $10 million prize pools!). This post looks at what is available in the Caribbean and Europe that you can enjoy satellites for right now.
Autumn in the Caribbean?
It seems that Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic is the hot venue for poker events at the moment. There is a special ‘Party Million’, the WPT event and the ‘Punta Cana Poker Classic’ all taking place in October and November.
Party Poker: The Caribbean Poker Party 19th through 26th November
Satellite qualifiers for this event start at just 1 cent, with 300 packages worth $8000 each being given away ahead of the events. What you’ll get it travel, accommodation and expenses – plus a buy-in for the Party Poker Million tournament (worth $3000).
Immediately after the Million Is the WPT Caribbean, which also has a $1 million guaranteed prize pool – though this one costs $5000 to enter. Party own / run the WPT brand, so you can be sure of a ton of satellite qualifiers for this event too.

America’s Cardroom: US Friendly Qualifiers for the Punta Cana Poker Classic October 25th through 31st
America’s Cardroom (or ACR as they are known) have really carved out a niche for themselves in the tournament area – offering the only $1 million guaranteed online tournaments for US players. You can also win live event prize packages there, though a tiered system of satellite qualifiers.
On offer right now are qualifiers to the Punta Cana Poker Classic worth $4900 – with the main qualifier only costing $55 to enter (and plenty of sub-qualifiers), I’m sure this is going to be popular.
This prize includes the $1650 buy-in to the main event (which has a $500k prize pool guaranteed), plus 6 nights of 5-star accommodation and flight / expenses money.

The Seaside Poker Festival – Romania 1st through 7th of August
NetBet, an established part of the iPoker Network, are holding a series of ‘NetBet Poker Open’ events through the year – and the next one takes you to the Romanian sea-side in August. I’ll admit that Romania and seaside are not words that immediately go together for me, though looking at the details of the impressive Vox Maris Grand Resort, this may well be one of those undiscovered areas… The main event has a EUR150,000 guarantee – and there is a complicated ladder of satellites which end up with a EUR550 main event ticket.
Satellites run until the 31st July – and you can find out the details at www.netbet.com
EPT Barcelona – August 16th through 28th
PokerStars have a lot of poker tours around the world, though for many the EPT is still the flagship. Qualifiers run all the time (Stars are big enough to have a factory like process in place, you win a lice event qualifier, and can choose your destination later.), and there are satellites for the EPT Barcelona running already.
Malta is also getting popular these days (GSOP and the Battle of Malta already run there), a look ahead shows that the EPT stops there from October 18th to 29th.
888 Live Local – Various Places
This one confused me a little, 888 seems to be making a play for smaller local live tournaments (there are some in Ukraine and Canada listed already). These have ‘TBC’ next to them at the moment – so I am not sure whether to list them here or not. I have settled on an ‘honourable mention’ as the concept looks good… lower buy-in local tournament qualifiers already work for smaller UK poker tours and (for example) the GSOP – so why not expand the concept?
We will have to wait and see. You can find the page via 'tournaments' in the top menu, then 'Live Local' in the bigger menu which appears.
For me, the Caribbean is very tempting at the moment – and qualifiers are available for both US and Worldwide readers at different sites!
GL at the tables,
Mark
