The Winnings of Oz Slot from PlayTech

Take a Trip Down the Yellow Brick Road (of Win Multipliers)

Winnings of Oz Slot Review - PlayTech - LogoIf you had not already caught it from the name, this slot is based on the classic tale: The Wizard of Oz. It is not as detailed (from a graphics perspective) as The Glass Slipper, which is also from Ash Gaming slots. You will find some entertaining features, including 3 separate bonus games. There is a progressive jackpot too.

You might be familiar with another slot based on the Wizard of Odds, from WMS. To be clear, this is a review of the Ash Gaming Winnings of Oz – which is available to play online at PlayTech Casinos.

My favourite part of this game is the free spins bonus. Here you get a big battle. This is between the Wicked Witch, and a good one. When the (potentially long) free spins game is over, you’ll get a super-spin, where the reels fill with wilds.

3 Bonus Games in the Winnings of Oz Slot

This 25 win-line Ash Gaming slot is packed with bonus features. The three features covered below are in addition to wild symbols on the reels. Those will multiply any wins they are involved in by 2.

Bonus #1: Follow the Yellow Brick Road

During the base game, you will see bonus symbols that show a yellow brick road winding off into the distance. This symbol has a border of flowers, making it stand out on the reels. You need one on each of reels 1, 3 and 5 to trigger the main 2nd screen bonus feature.

Once the reels disappear, you will see a bigger version of that yellow brick road stretching off into the distance. Dorothy, together with her trusty dog, stands in the bottom left corner. On the bottom right is a wheel, with a green button on it that says ‘spin’. Above this scene you will see a box with the progressive jackpot, plus multipliers going up to 4x.

Numbers along the path are important. These are multipliers for your total spin amount, you will get whatever multiplier the game ends on. Also on the path are the characters, Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion. If you are lucky enough to hit these, you will increase the multipliers. You win will be multiplied by that amount when you end the bonus.

You move along the road using the wheel, this gives you a number between 1 and 6 each time. When the wheel lands on the word ‘collect’, then your game ends.

As an extra bonus, if you reach the top / end of the yellow brick road, you will move to the Wizard’s lair and play the progressive jackpot game.

Winnings of Oz Slot Bonus Game #2: Wicked Witch Free Spins

Symbols showing one white witch and one green witch on reels 2, 4 and 5 trigger the epic battle that is the free spins bonus game. During this game there are two new symbols on the reels, a good witch and a wicked witch. Both are scatters and have prizes (1000 coins for 5 of the good, 500 for 5 of the bad).

You will see two new boxes below the reels. These count up the number of good and bad witches you hit. The free spins games will continue until you hit the 5th bad witch. You can also collect a maximum of 8 good witches along the way.

Super Spin: After you collect 5 bad witches, you get a super-spin. This can be huge and involves all the good witch wilds you collected moving onto the reels in random positions, before one last free spin occurs. If you got all 8 before your super-spin, more than half of the positions on the reels will be wild.

Winnings of Oz: Bonus Game #3: Wizard Bonus

There are two ways of triggering the Wizard Bonus game. You can reach the end of the yellow brick road, or you can get two bonus symbols on reels 1 and 3, then a wizard symbol on reel 5. Graphically, this bonus looks great – a scary wizard, made of Emeralds appears, with two flickering fires on columns beside him.

Aside from the graphics, this is a simple game. You pick gold coins. Some of these will give you cash prizes, and others will show the characters from the story. If you get all the characters (so, 4 from 4) then you win the progressive jackpot.

Slot Setup and Regular Wins

It is easy to get carried away with all the bonuses, and to forget that at the heart of it all is a regular online slot. This one has a 5-reel, 3 row setups, with 25 win-lines. That 25 is both the maximum and the default, though you can change this downwards if you prefer. Your spin bet is per line, with 1c the minimum. You can win the progressive jackpot playing any bet size. I did not find Turbo mode on this game – so you’ll have to sit back and enjoy the story!

Wilds have the single biggest win, and also double any wins that they create with the other regular symbols. Wilds do not substitute for the special bonus symbols. These show the logo of the game, and the maximum win is 2,000 coins for 5 of a kind.

Next on the pay table comes Dorothy and her dog, at 1000 coins. A composite symbol, with the 3 famous (friendly) characters is next at 500 coins, with slippers and a farmhouse + tornado next at 125.

That completes the unique symbols – with so much else going on, the use of playing card / filler symbols is welcome. You will find aces to tens in play this time.

Emerald City Slot Design

Surrounding the reels are views of meadows with poppies – and mountains in the far distance. The view on top of the reels is more interesting. You will see spires of an emerald city, covered in a giant rainbow.

Overall, this slot is bright, though not the most recent designs. As I mentioned up in the intro, it really does not compare to the 3D animations and avatars used in The Glass Slipper. Winnings of Oz is still an enjoyable game – just not a graphical masterpiece.

Things do get livelier in the bonus games. Both the free spins and yellow brick road are well produced. The best is saved for the Wizard, who is made entirely from Emeralds.

Will the Wizard of Oz Be Wonderful to You?

This is a great slot all-round and will appeal to those who like a coherent (and easy to recognise) storyline with their gaming. There is plenty enough action to keep you entertained. I found visits to the Yellow Brick Road reasonably frequent (your mileage may vary). If you get the free spins, you have that super-spin to look forward to at the end. With a progressive jackpot to come, this slot really could become a fairy-tale come true.
