Collecting Crystals for Jackpots
When I first played this game, it looked like collecting crystals in the base game would award jackpots directly. This is not the case. Instead, you collect bright crystals (a different colour for each reel) and get to enter the jackpot free spins game. This does not take anything away from the slot – only it is always good to have the expectations set correctly at the start.
These jackpots each relate to a rank of wizardry. At the lowest end of the scale is ‘Novice’. This is followed by ‘Apprentice’, ‘Mystic’, ‘Wizard’ and finally ‘Archmage’. That last rank, which has red crystals on reel 5, has a big 4-figure jackpot – enough to put some magic into any player’s bankroll!
Free Spins with Orb Collection
To get to the free spins bonus, you either need to complete one of the rows of 5 crystals above the reels – or hit 3+ bonus symbols in the base game. Those bonus symbols are frequent. If anything, a little too frequent. You’ll hit one or two multiple times – along with the associated sound effect. The bonus game symbols also do this. After a while, I tuned out of expecting there to be a 3rd (or 4th / 5th). This does not mean that the bonus games are any less frequent than on other slots – just that the false alarms are regular.
When you start the bonus game, the jackpots appear above the reels as before. Instead of collecting crystals, you need to collect orbs. 5 orbs get you a jackpot. There is one for each reel, and different coloured orbs appear depending on which reel they land on.
Orbs are frequent, which means you’ll come close to winning jackpots regularly. Note that they do get in the way of line wins by taking up the place of a regular symbol. To make up for this (and to give your bankroll a boost), all line hits during the free spins have a 3x multiplier.
Pick Magic Tomes for Prizes
If you get 3+ bonus symbols, the reels will disappear. They are replaced by a grid of magical books, each with a golden lock.
This is a fairly standard picks game. You simply click or tap on the tomes, collecting wins as you go. These get added to your total, which is collected when you pick one with a magical pentangle behind it. Some books reveal extra crystals. These get added to the ones in the base game, improving your chances of triggering the jackpot free spins games.
Ozwin’s Jackpots from Yggdrasil: Setup
Nothing too magical about the base setup of this slot. It uses a regular grid of 5 reels, each one with 3 rows of symbols. There are 20 win-lines this time. While this is lower than some online slots, it does mean that you can increase your coin size (which makes wins bigger!).
Owls have the biggest single prize. This is 4,000 coins for 5 of a kind. This prize will be tripled if you hit it during the free spins bonus. Other winning symbols include the apprentice wizard, a potion bottle – and a device which could be a compass.
Playing card suits made into gems are the filler symbols. These provide you with smaller and more regular wins.
