Synched Reels Random Feature
Symbols are stacked on the reels. This means that even without any special features, you can line up a lot of winning combinations over the big 6x4 setup. When the synched reels come into play, your big win potential shoots up.
When this feature starts, you’ll see bolts of lightning shoot from the head of Ryan’s guitar. These hit the top of the reels, which turns the entire reel into a rainbow. The most common outcome is to get 2 reels together synched. This means that the symbols match as they spin around. If you are lucky, you can get 3, 4, 5 or even all 6 (which would guarantee a huge win).
It depends which reels get synched how big a boost this is. For example, if you get reels 1, 2 and 3 all synched, you can win up to 4096 times (less if you get a bonus symbol). If these are further out, then you’ll need the symbols on the in-between reels to match up. Wilds are in play to help connect them.
Free Spins Feature with Synched Reels Throughout
To trigger the free spins feature, you’ll need at least 3 of the amplifier symbols anywhere on the reels. These say ‘free spins’ on them. Note that the wilds do not replace these symbols.
If you are lucky enough to get all 6, you’ll win the maximum 20 free spins. Fewer than this gets you a smaller number of free games.
There are synched reels in play for every one of your free spins. You’ll start with 2 at random, and more can be added. An important factor with these spins is that the number of synched reels can never go down. If you get 3, then you have at least 3 next spin, and possibly 4. This continues throughout the games, a perfect time to retrigger with more of the amplifier symbols!
Rainbow Ryan: Big Reels Setup
6 Reels certainly adds a new dimension to this game, especially with an all-ways winning system in play.
Stacked symbols help create multiple wins. This makes up for the smaller prizes for each combination.
The symbols are more rock-themed than traditionally Irish. Two exceptions are at the top of the pay table. There is a traditional leprechaun’s hat, brimming with gold coins – plus a pair of boots. These pay 250 and 200 coins respectively for 6 of a kind.
Next comes a microphone, followed by a frothy pint of beer (not Guinness!). At the lower end of the pay table are playing card suits, all made into distinctively coloured gems.
Wilds are gold and green, and the bonus symbols show an amplifier – fitting perfectly with the rock music that plays while you spin.
Rock N Roll Leprechaun Design
Instead of green fields and rolling hills, the setting for this Irish slot from Yggdrasil is a stage. At the sides are huge towers of speakers, with spotlights above shining down onto the reels. Those reels have a black background, which helps with gold and green symbols shine through.
It is Rainbow Ryan himself that steals the show. This leprechaun literally rocks. He stands in the bottom left corner, playing his guitar. I am impressed by the way Yggdrasil have synched his finger movements with the beat of the soundtrack. When the bonus symbols appear, he plays a single note (complete with movement) while you wait to see if that 3rd one appears. This is one happy guy, with plenty of facial expression changes while you spin.
Those rainbow effects are excellent, and the lightning coming from Ryan’s guitar is also worth seeing.
On the reels, the symbols are smart. There are small animations, though nothing too distracting.
Should You Rock Your Way to Riches with Yggdrasil’s Rainbow Ryan?
Yes! While I admit to being a big fan of Yggdrasil slots in general – they have created something both unique and enjoyable here. While it does not have the big star tie-in of NetEnt’s Guns N Roses slot or the Motorhead one, there is plenty to enjoy.
Highlights include those synched reels. These are especially good when you get 3+ of them (preferably to the left of the reels). When you hit the free spins, the number of synched reels only ever goes up. That alone could lead you to be toasting some Irish luck of your own.
