Hologram Wilds Slot Review - PlayTech

Neon Symbols, Plasma and Random Wilds in this Unique PlayTech Slot

Hologram Wilds Slot Review - PlayTechIt is not often a slot is released which genuinely looks different to all the others out there. With their Hologram Wilds slot, PlayTech have achieved this. You can expect streams of plasma instead of rotating reels. Flashes of light which add extra wilds to the reels, and fruit symbols which only become their ‘natural’ colour when you have already created a win.

This is a simple slot, and I mean that in a positive way. It would work great on a mobile device (desktop view is stunning). When you get free spins, you’ll find a lot of the extra wild symbols on the reels. These will sometimes cover entire reels. This can make a neon spotlight popping up to announce a ‘big win’ all the more likely.

Before You Play Hologram Wilds: Slot Setup and Betting Levels

While it does not look like regular reels are even involved, there are 5 reels with 4 rows of symbols on each when you check underneath the plasma. When the reels spin, these look like pulsating light waves, it is only when they stop that you will see the fruit symbols underneath.

There are 40 lines. You can’t change them, though even if you could this would be a bad move. Those extra wilds would have fewer lines to connect! Bets are in increments of 1c per line. That is 40c, 80c… and so on, up to a huge $16 per spin.

Hologram Wilds is fast enough already, though if you want to up the pace even more, then you can try ‘Turbo Mode’. Auto-play gives you choices. You can either pick a number of automatic spins (up to 99) or set it to spin until you hit the feature.

How to Win on the Hologram Wilds Slot

Wilds show the word ‘wild’ surrounded by a golden band. These have the usual dual role. They replace regular symbols to help create more wins, they also have the single biggest prize. This is 1000 coins for 5 of a kind. If you get stacked wilds covering the entire grid of reels, you would win 40,000 coins!

7’s come next, these are a neon orange colour. You’ll get 400 coins for 5 of these, down to 30 for just 3. There are 9 more symbols spinning on the plasma stream reels. These are grouped into 4 levels of prizes. The top group is bananas, plums and a segment of melon – while the humble cherry symbols are the lowest paying.

Random Wilds in the Base Game

Before any spin stops, you will see flashes of light on the reels in different places. Some of these will turn into wild symbols. It is possible to get good coverage of these wilds, which you will see in their orange / gold colour before the rest of the symbols are in place.

Crown Scatters and Free Spins

Scatter symbols are golden crowns, these only appear on reels 2, 3 and 5. When they hit the reels they immediately show as gold – unlike the other symbols which only get colour if you win with them.

You need 3 scatters to trigger the free spins bonus game. Other than the music changing (gets more intense, in an electronic way), the game looks the same. The main difference is that there are many more of the random wilds for each spin. You will see entire reels go wild, and sometimes more than one of them.

You only get 5 free spins, though the extra wilds more than made up for this for me!

Unique Plasma and Hologram Design

When you spin the reels, the plasma streams which include the symbols move upwards. This is the opposite of what you would expect from a slot, and did take a little getting used to. The effect is excellent, capturing that physics lab feeling! It is only when the reels stop that you will see the fruits (or rather holograms of them) contained within them.

For the main game, the background is plain. If you look closely you will see stars or maybe plasma bubbles moving around. When you trigger the free spins, you will see that the background has changed to a space view. Wilds get added to the reels with a flash of light, and any winning fruit symbols get their bright colours. I enjoy the contrast with the intense light blue of the main reels.

You’ll hear electronic music while you spin, with zaps and sizzles for wins and wilds. One effect I like is that when 2 crowns appear, the 4th reel goes gold and spins for a lot longer.

Is the Hologram Wilds Slot the Real Thing?

For a simple, solid slot with a modern feel and excellent visuals, you really can’t go wrong with Hologram Wilds. To say it looks unique is an understatement – this is a visual treat with a genuinely fresh interface.

Some of the classics of slot gaming are still used. Fruit symbols have been around since the first games, though never in quite this format!

The highlight from a potential profits perspective is the short free spins game. Sure, you only get 5 spins. With all those extra random wilds in play, you will find that this can be very profitable at times!
