Age of the Gods Slot Review - PlayTech

PlayTech Have a Growing Range of Age of the Gods Titles: Here Is My Detailed Review of the Original

Original Age of the Gods Slot Review - PlayTechThere are now 7 different Age of the Gods slots in the PlayTech range. These are popular, and it would not surprise me to see more coming out soon. The original Age of Gods is based on the myths of Ancient Greece. You’ll find 4 Gods in play, and each has a free spins bonus game with unique aspects to the game play.

You'll now find all the Age of the Gods slots compared on a single page with my Age of the Gods Slots Special

Here are the highlights of the Original Age of the Gods Game

  • Power Jackpots: Win $100,000+ at any spin amount
  • Free Spins Bonus: 4 different versions of the free spins to keep you engaged
  • Big Line Hits: This slot is not all about the bonus, you can win up to 10,000 coins it the base game
  • Solid Game-Play: As you’d expect from PlayTech, the game play is excellent

You’ll see some Greek icons behind the reels of this slot. On the left is the Acropolis, with a waterfall to the right. The best graphics are associated with the free spins games. There is a golden medusa as a transiting graphic effect – and then you get the gods!

Each bonus game has something to offer. A wild reel for Hercules, increasing win multipliers for Zeus, extra wilds for Poseidon and so on. Better still, you can get several free spins rounds in a row. You pick from gold discs to trigger these, and will return to that picks game after each bonus. As long as you can avoid picking Hades (god of the underworld), you can carry right on!

Bonus Features on the Original Age of the Gods Slot

Those bonuses are excellent. Not only will each one give you a shot at some big wins, they all have unique graphics effects too. These show full size Greek gods – and have a ton of detail.

To trigger a bonus, you simply need to hit 3 of the bonus symbols (which say ‘Wage of the Gods’) anywhere in view. Next you see a graphic where the screen gets covered in a metal cover, which has a sparkling gold Medusa on it. When this opens, you see a setting with purple patterns going off into the distance. 5 rows of gold coins hover in the air.

You’ll be instructed to pick them until you get 3 Gods that match. That is the free spins type that you will win. If you get Hades before you complete 3 matches, your game ends. In my experience, you’ll get at least one bonus game before Hades pops up.

Choices for the Age of the Gods Bonus

Here are the different forms of bonus game:

Athena Free Games

Here the Goddess Athena hovers over the reels before each spin. An orb comes from her staff, which moves to the top left above the reels. This gives a win multiplier up to 5x for any win which occurs in that spin. You get 9 spins in total. These are not retriggerable, though you will go back to the picks game afterwards.

Hercules Free Games:

This is a simple bonus, and again features 9 spins. Hercules is static this time, and stands on reel 3. He covers this reel, making it into a wild symbol for the duration of the spins. If this combines well with the regular wilds, you can end up with some bigger wins.

Zeus Free Spins:

To different aspects to this bonus. First, you get a sticky wild, which looks like a small thundercloud, in the middle of reel 3. Second, Zeus appears every 3 spins (you get 9 total) and ups your win multiplier.

Poseidon Free Spins:

The trident Poseidon carries comes in handy for this game – as it is used to shoot wilds onto the reels. You get up to 5 of them on any spin, with some excellent special effects while they are put into place. Like the other games, you get 9 free spins.

Winning the PlayTech Power Jackpots

Age of the Gods is one of many slots linked to the ‘Power’ Progressive jackpots. These are random, and can be triggered at any stake. The more you bet, the better your chances of hitting one. You see a screen filled with gold coins. You click these to turn them over, until you match 4. There are 4 levels of jackpot to win.

Age of the Gods: Slot Setup and Betting

Even with so many bonus games available, the basis is a solid (and standard) slot setup. This game has the usual 5x3 reels, and 20 win-lines. All you need to do before you spin is decide on your bet size. The smallest bet is 20c and the largest a giant $500 per spin!

Turbo mode is a useful button on PlayTech slots, cutting down on the spinning time considerably. There is also an auto-play option.

Regular Line Wins on Age of the Gods

Some big line wins are available, which can help to make those bonus games all the more profitable. It is always good to know that you are only a spin away from a 10,000-coin win in the base game. This is for 5 wild symbols, which are the word ‘wild’ with a laurel wreath behind it.

Athena heads up the list of prizes for the Gods, she is worth 1000 coins for 5. Next comes Zeus and Poseidon at 500 coins, with Hercules and two other gods completing the pantheon. A distinctive mask, and playing card symbols ace, king and queen make up the smaller wins.

One extra win will occur if you get one of each of the higher paying gods on an active win-line. This is known as the ‘Pantheon of Power’, and will award you 200x your bet.

Detailed, Though Largely Static Design

This slot looks slick and professional. When you start to spin it you’ll probably note the detailed views of Ancient Greece behind the reels, and the colourful God symbols on them. This game does have a static feel. Animations for wins are very minimalistic, just shrinking / growing symbols, which are lit up compared to the rest.

Fortunately, once the bonus game starts, things do liven up considerably. The gods hosting each of the 4 games are full-sized and detailed. They are more like drawings with small movements than true animations. Poseidon is my favourite, his trident coming in handy for those extra wilds.

The best animation of all is the metallic door closing on the reels, with the golden Medusa head animation. Age of the Gods is worth checking out just for this in my opinion!

Should You Spin with the Gods of Ancient Greece?

A thumbs-up for this slot. With only some small reservations about lacking animations in the base game, almost everything else is a positive. The depth of the bonus games makes this slot engaging over and over. You can win more than one free spins game, by avoiding Hades in the picks game at the end of each bonus.

Add to this a shot at the ‘Power’ jackpots, and the potential for big line wins, and you’ll find a well-made slot which ticks all the right boxes.
