The Ultimate Guide to RealTime Gaming (RTG) Online Slots
In the days when you needed to download casinos onto your desktop – RealTime Gaming were one of the big players. These days there is a lot more competition for your online slot play. RTG are still around, still produce solid, enjoyable games – and still offer jackpots.
Add to that the fact that the offshore US casinos use RealTime Gaming software and you have a provider worth checking out.
This page covers the RealTime Gaming slots you’ll find online in a lot of depth. Here is what you will find below:
- First up, my personal picks from the extensive RTG range. This include a classic plus two more recent titles.
- Next, an overview of the huge progressive jackpots - which can drop at random.
- You'll then find a broader look at the types of slots including mobile, 3-reel and video slot titles.
- What else to expect from RealTime Gaming software is covered last.

Planet Mark’s Picks: Best RealTime Gaming Slots
There are more than 200 titles to choose from, making it difficult to choose just 3! This selection covers some new games, and one classic. These are not necessarily the fanciest games, think of them as the ones I head for first when I play at RTG casinos.
#1 Orc vs. Elf: This game has graphics good enough to give the giant live slot providers a run for their money. That is not the reason I love it. Best of all is that you get to choose whether to play as the Orc or the Elf when the game loads. Sure, some of you will choose the good-guy… for me that ugly orc is the way to go. There are different free spins bonus games for each mode, and some epic battle action on top. This is a great example of newer RealTime Gaming Slot. It sheds the image that this software house had of solid games and goes out on a limb.
#2 Aztec’s Treasure: A classic, and the reason for picking this one is the jackpot. This slot has made millionaires – at random! Part of the ‘Reel Series’ (see below for more on this), there is a progressive jackpot which can drop at random. You’ll be spinning, hit a losing spin with jumbled symbols, then *boom* a massive prize can drop. If you had not guessed from the name, the theme is ancient Aztec civilisation. While the graphics are older (a little dated), the game-play is as solid as any Vegas slot.
#3 Birds of Fury: This is my ‘fun pick’. The name might sound odd. When you see the game, you’ll notice a distinct similarity to the mobile game Angry Birds. The reels look like a series of boxes stacked up. Some of the symbols are sitting on nests. Look out for the angry baby blue bird, who packs some dynamite. This game is not only entertaining, you can win some serious prizes. There are random win-multipliers, free spins and a blue-eggs picks game.
Types of RealTime Gaming Slot
For many years, RTG were best known for their range of solid 5-reel video slots. In the later 1990’s and early 2000’s these were cutting edge. With a distinctive sandy coloured background, these types of slot had solid game-play and (usually) a single free spins bonus game too.
Since then, things have become a lot more diverse.
Reel Series Slots: The flagship range of slots from RTG are collectively known as the ‘Reel Series’. Many look the same as the regular games. The difference is in the random jackpots. There are multiple progressives to be won. The biggest of these can go over $1 million.
What I like about these jackpots is that they are not connected to the game-play. Instead they drop at random after any spin (even a losing one). Some games require a higher minimum bet level to qualify for the big prize – others do not. Make sure that you check this before you spin (it will be in the instructions for each game).
Classic 3-Reel Slots: These are still popular. Live casinos, especially in Vegas, are packed with them. Some have a single win-line, others up to 5 crossing the reels in different directions. RTG have a lot of this type of game – which are made to look like the mechanical slots with curved reels and clicking noises. Once again, make sure you check the pay table. You’ll often need to bet that 3rd (or 5th) coin to get the best return. Don’t worry, you can always adjust the coin size lower to make sure this fits with your bankroll.
Classic Video Slots: When the 5-reel video slots were new, RealTime Gaming came up with a lot of innovative titles. Many of these had a humorous theme and became classics thanks to hitting the right note with players. Examples here include ‘Midlife Crisis’ and ‘Shopping Spree’. I would also put ‘Crazy Vegas’ in this category.
Mobile / Updated Slots: Thankfully, RealTime Gaming slots have improved over time. You’ll now find the newer games are fully mobile compatible from the get-go. Check out the graphics on Enchanted Garden II, Birds of Fury or Orc vs. Elf and you’ll see the difference. Sure, these are not the 3D spectaculars of BetSoft… though they certainly hold their own in a competitive slot landscape.

Overview of RealTime Gaming Software
There is a lot more to this casino software house than just slots. They got started way back in 1998, and for many years provided a complete casino solution. In those days, this involved downloading software to your PC. There was a (later) Mac compatible version. You’d get the ‘game engine’, cashier, slots and table games all in one package.
These days, you can play RTG slots in your browser. There is still a lot more to the software than that.
Casino table games were one area that RealTime Gaming have always excelled. These are not the fancy looking, special effects laden type games. Think solid, fast and enjoyable. This includes a lot of Blackjack variants, roulette, and one of the best online craps games you’ll find. Niche games like baccarat and casino poker games can also be found.
Video poker still has a ton of fans, and RTG are strong in this area too. These games are designed to look like the old terminals found in bars (think: ugly). You can choose from classics like JOB or Deuces Wild, or go for some bonus poker type variants or even multi-hand games. The software line-up is completed by Keno and scratch cards.
Some More Cool RealTime Gaming Slots to Check Out
Shopping Spree: One look at the game and you might come to the immediate conclusion that the slot is a little outdated. Take another look at the progressive jackpot amount and you’ll soon change your mind. The jackpot comes your way when you can land the diamond ring symbol 5 times in a row on one of the nine pay lines, this paying out if playing for the maximum bet size only. You’ll have a choice if you bag the jackpot – a $100,000 shopping spree or the progressive Jackpot amount and considering that the jackpot amount regularly exceeds a million dollars, the choice shouldn’t be too difficult! Alongside the jackpot opportunity you’ll also find two bonus features, where you can grab yourself some extra shopping money.
Aladdin’s Wishes: This RTG slot is one of the Real Series and offers a random jackpot. Unlike the majority of the range, you’ll only find one in this game. Fans of the Disney film of the same name will find the slot has a familiar feel. Aladdin himself is the wild and appears on reels 2, 3 and 4, while the magic lamp is the scatter symbol. Land three of these on the first or last 3 reels and you’ll find yourself in the bonus round. Here you’ll pick each of the lamps, with the aim being to choose the lamp with the 25 free spins attached. You’ll also find some nice multipliers as well. However, the biggest wins come your way if you can win the randomly allocated progressive jackpot, worth four figures or more!
PayDirt: PayDirt is a RealTime Gaming slot inspired by the Gold Rush in mid-19th century US. This slot has a humorous cartoon look. You’ll find a good mix of symbols including a cowboy, a donkey, dynamite, a dog eating golden nuggets, a pick axe and the gold prospector. This is another of the Real Series, so offers a nice progressive Jackpot that at time of writing was over $10,000! Land the title symbol three times and you’ll pick one to reveal one of three features – all revolving around various amounts of free spins, with added extras such as wild reels and added wilds.
What Other Slots Software Providers Welcome US Players?
Offshore casinos use a unique set of software providers, which are separate from those used at the international ‘big brand’ casinos. There are some great options, and some providers which a long history of innovation in the industry. RealTime Gaming have the longest history of all, though here are 3 more you might also consider:
BetSoft: I have listed BetSoft slots first, as these are visually stunning. In fact, the first time you see them you’ll wonder if you have loaded up a console type game instead of an online slot! Think 3D avatar hosts, crazy themes, detailed bonus games (often involving mini-adventures) … all based around solid slot game-play. You can find out more about these games in my dedicated BetSoft Slots Guide page.
Rival Gaming: I’d put Rival at a similar level to RTG in terms of history and the number of slots on offer. These games have a different feel, and a more diverse coverage of themes and ideas. Rival are famous for their ‘iSlots’. These introduce a progressive storyline to many games. As you progress, you unlock new bonus features. Popular iSlots include Cosmic Quest and ‘As the Reels Turn’. These are just the tip of the iceberg, with an excellent range of regular video slots available. Again, you can find out more in my dedicated page: Rival Slots Guide.
Arrows Edge: If you prefer solid game-play to fancy graphics, then AE slots are well worth checking out. My favourite titles from this slot software house include some which *almost* infringe on the trademarks of movie franchises. When you see ‘Star Slots’ and ‘Mad Road’ you’ll see exactly what I mean. These games don’t compare visually to the big international providers, though there are a lot of fun to play. Check out my Arrows Edge Slots guide for more info.
