Aztec's Treasure Slot Review - RealTime Gaming's Jackpot Game

The Original Aztec Themed Progressive Jackpot Slot

Detailed Review Aztec;s Treasure Slot RTGSlots themed on the Aztecs (or Incas / Mayans) are very popular these days. It all had to start somewhere, and Aztec’s Treasures from RealTime Gaming is one of the originals.

This is a solid slot, with top quality game-play and potential for big prizes. The graphics are not comparable with the latest games. For me this did not take away from the enjoyment – nor did it make the game feel significantly retro.

You’ll find stacked wilds, a free spins bonus feature with some generous extras, and those RealTime Gaming completely random jackpots, which can drop at any moment.

Getting Started with Aztec Treasures

No surprises about the setup for fans of RTG slots. This one works on the five reels, each with 3 symbols in view basis. The win lines are adjustable. You will get 20 as a default and can play any number all the way down to 1. With stacked wilds, I do recommend you stick to the full 20 lines. You can adjust your stake per line to suit your bankroll. The smallest spin for all 20 win-lines is just 20c, though you can play for high stakes too!

Winning Symbols from 2 of a Kind

The three best paying symbols only need 2 of a kind to trigger a win. The best paying of all is the Aztec Queen. 5 of these will get you a generous 5,000 coins, with 500 for 4, 100 for 3 and 5 coins for 2. As a small extra, just one Queen symbol on the left-hand reel will get you 2 coins.

Jaguars come next, worth 2500 coins for the full 5, with a bird-god type head mask adding 1000 coins to your bankroll for 5 of a kind. There ae two jewels completing the line-up of unique symbols.

I like the way the playing cards have been given an angular design. This keeps them in line with the theme of this slot, while at the same time de-cluttering the reels.  6 cards in total are used, with aces all the way down to nines in play.

Stacked Wild Symbols

The Aztec King is a wild symbol. He can’t make wins on his own, since he only appears on reels 2, 3 and 4. This symbol does come in long strips (known as stacks) on the reels. This means you will sometimes see one or more reels completely covered – creating multiple wins.

Scattered Gold Statues and Free Spins

Gold Aztec statues are a welcome sight on the reels. When you hit 2, the remaining reels speed up (and take longer to stop) with a sound effect growing your excitement in case the 3rd one hits. You need a minimum 3 of these to both trigger a win, and the free spins game. Those scatter wins are worth hitting. You will get a full 100x your total bet amount if you hit 5 of these icons.

You get 5 free spins for 3, 15 spins for 4 and 25 spins for 5.

Once the free spins game starts, all wins are tripled. This takes the top win to a welcome 15,000 coins. In addition to the boosted wins, you can keep your bonus round going for longer too. Every time you hit an Aztec Statue symbol, one free spin is added to your total.

Progressive Jackpots

Above the reels you will see a progressive jackpot. This will hit at random, with the results of any spin irrelevant to this prize. You can get a losing spin, and still be awarded a jackpot! Keep in mind that most casinos have a minimum bet to be in with a shot at winning the biggest prize.

Classic Design Now Looks Retro

You’ll find a jungle treetops view above the reels, and a smart gold frame around them. The overall look is blocky by today’s standards. As I mentioned in the introduction, this does not take away from the overall playability of this slot.

The only symbol which stands out is the bird mask. This is distinctive enough that I am unsure why it has not been used in a horror movie. Those gold statues also have a lot of detail. You can spin in turbo mode, which speeds up the game a lot.

Is the Original Aztec Slot Worth a Spin?

I enjoy this game – despite the aging graphics. I recommend you take it for a spin for three reasons. First, you’ll get to see the original Aztec slot, and inspiration for countless other games. Second, a jackpot can drop at any moment, even after a losing spin. Third, that free spins game can get extended over and over. With tripled wins, you never know when you will hit a hot run!
