Vikings Go Bezerk Slot Review - Yggdrasil Gaming

Yggdrasil Gaming Have Reinvented the Viking Slot – With Amazing Special Effects

Vikings Go Beserk Slot Review - YggdrasilThere are plenty of slots set in the world of Vikings, and many more with the Norse Gods. While some of these (think Thunderstruck 2) are popular, I have not come across one as visually stunning as Yggdrasil’s Vikings Go Bezerk.

You’ll get a flavour of what is to come from the intro video. This shows a static scene, with an epic battle rendered into excellent 3D action. The amazing imagery is continued, with the reels set in a Viking longboat, with a metal dragons head and tail either side of the reels. Once the game starts, the visual (and audio) effects become even more impressive. Vikings can enter ‘bezerk’ mode, where they become invincible. There is an amazing monster with huge tentacles which the crew do battle with in the free spins game.

If that is not already plenty enough – each of the characters gets a ‘rage meter’, you’ll be happy to see this reach the top! Treasure chests land at random on the reels, giving you a shot at instant prizes or free spins. Before we meet the crew, here is an overview of how this slot works:

How the Vikings Go Bezerk Slot is Organised

As with most Yggdrasil slots, the number of win-lines is fixed for each game. What you can control is the amount that you spin for. This game has 25 win-lines, and you can spin from as little as 25c. Other base game options (shared between all Yggdrasil games) is an auto-play, max bet and controls for sound / speed and so on.

Rage Meters: Meet the Crew

The Viking crew of this long ship are an ugly looking bunch. These is a Viking with spiked hair and a big downward pointing brown moustache. A bald guy with a big red beard, an older guy with a platted grey beard and a lady with blue paint stripes on her face.

You’ll see them lined up in circles under the reels, as well as appearing in symbols on them. There is a metal frame around each of these circles. As you play, bright orange will creep around each circle. This is a ‘rage meter’ and having a Viking in a rage is always a good thing in this slot.

When a rage starts you get 7 free spins. The big difference comes in the battle with the Sirens. During the regular free spins game, all the Vikings that hit the reel do battle with supernatural monsters. They usually lose. When the Viking wins, they cheer, and that symbol becomes a sticky wild for the remainder of the free spins game.

Now the big difference when a Viking goes Bezerk – they always win. This means a lot more sticky wilds and a lot more chances of that big win! You’ll get some excellent flame effects too.

Free Spins with Bonus Features

There is another way to trigger the free spins bonus games – by getting 3+ of the special scatter symbols on a single spin. If you get 3, you’ll win 7 spins, 4 gets you 14 and 5 gets the maximum 21.

You are then given a bonus, no need to go via a picks game this time, it just appears on the message telling you how many spins you have won. Here are the possible bonuses:

  • All Vikings are Bezerk: This is the best bonus feature by a long way. If you get 4 bezerk Vikings, you could find yourself with a lot of the reels wild very quickly. Berzerk Vikings will always beat the sirens.
  • Sticky Wild: This single sticky wild will be placed at random on the reels.
  • Sticky Wild Reel: Here all 3 spots on one reel at random are turned wild for the duration of the bonus.
  • Extra Free Spins: Between 1 and 3 free spins are added to your total.
  • Extra Chests: 5 extra chests are added to the reels, giving you a better shot at triggering an instant win.

With epic battles against the Siren (an evil type of Mermaid) on each spin, these free spins are a visual treat too.

Treasure Chest Bonuses

You will find regular and ‘golden’ treasure chests hitting the reels. These appear in both the base game and the free spins.

Each time one lands, 5 tiles appear over the reels. These then go back into a pile, and after being mixed, come out blank. You choose one to reveal your prize. In the base game this can be anything up to 1000 coins – or up to 21 free spins. Inside the free spins game, you can get extra wilds, a wild reel, a small number of extra spins, or up to 1000 coins.

Golden treasure chests only appear on reel 5. These offer enhanced bonuses, with up to 10,000 coins now the maximum prize. You can also trigger the Ragnarok free spins, or boost your rage meter from golden chests. The only difference with golden chests in the free spins game is that you can win 10,000 coins.

Regular Winning Combinations: Vikings and Metal Coins

With so much action in the features, it is easy to forget that the basis of any slot is the line wins. As you might expect, the Vikings have the single biggest wins. The spiked hair guy tops the list with 250 coins for the maximum 5 (all require a minimum of 3 of a kind). Next comes red-beard, at 2000, then the older Viking at 175 – followed by the blue striped lady at 150.

I like the use of metal coins for the filler symbols. These help to keep things on topic, at the same time as keeping the slot looking great. There are gold, silver, bronze and nickel coins in play.

Epic Viking Design

Everything about this slot is smooth and professional. Those Vikings will suddenly spring into action, right on the reels, during the free spins bonus game. Sure, the Sirens are too strong for them most of the time – though when they do win you’ll get a cheer!

Check out the short intro between the main game and free spins. You’ll see an amazing view of a mermaid jumping into the water, and quickly changing… The music is intensive, classic / movie score type of sound, this works really well to flesh out the atmosphere of the game.

Will Vikings Go Bezerk Pillage a Good Bankroll for You?

Yggdrasil rarely disappoint, though this is one of the best slots in their portfolio. You’ll do battle with evil sea creatures, open gold chests full of treasure and hope to see your ‘rage meters’ go all the way to the top – what is not to like about that kind of combination.
