An Animated Slot based on the Story of the Three Little Pigs
If I had to choose one word to describe Piggies and the Wolf from PlayTech, it would have to be ‘endearing’. This is a delightful mix of a solid game, entertaining bonus features and 3D animations.
The story is the Three Little Pigs. Those pigs are fun, though not the stars of this slot. That accolade goes to a certain Big Bad Wolf. He will chase away pigs in the free spins (leaving trails of wilds) and, you guessed it, attempt to blow their houses down in the picks bonus feature.
While you play, a countryside tune will keep your feet tapping – sometimes joined by a pig with a banjo! Here are the key features of the Piggies and the Wolf Slots:
- Wilds: Who else but the Big Bad Wolf himself to replace other winning symbols as the wild?
- Free Spins: An entertaining game where hitting the wolf next to a pig has surprising results!
- Bonus Game: Here you help the wolf blow down up to 3 houses with some very odd things.
- Solid PlayTech game-play… as you’d expect from this software house.
Free Spins Bonus with the Big Bad Wolf in Action
Things get animated quickly in the free spins game – with the characters literally coming to life right on the reels. To trigger this, you need to hit 3 of the bonus symbols – one on each of reels 1, 3 and 5.
You then see a new setting for the reels. This time the house that frames them is made of brick instead of wood. You will receive 15 free spins, though the special behaviour of the wolf can turn any of these into a big win.
Wolf wilds which land away from any pigs are normal. They keep their usual role of substituting for any other symbol other than the bonus scatters.
When a wolf lands to the right of a pig, the action starts.
You will now see an animation where the pig springs out of its symbol, grows, looks worried and runs away. There are 3 different pigs (in case you missed the original story!), all with their own animation. The wolf also grows and chases them off in a cartoon animation.
This creates a line of wolf wild symbols right across the reels. If you get the pig on reel 4 and the wolf on reel 5, this means an entire row of wilds is created. With 50 win-lines in play, that can connect a lot of different wins.
Bonus symbols are in play – making retriggers possible.
Blow Your House Down Bonus
The second bonus game needs 3 special symbols. These look like Earth, with the word bonus wrapped around it. Again, you need them on reels 1, 3 and 5 to trigger.
This time, the reels disappear. Instead you see a scene where the wolf stands outside a house made of straw. Above this animated wolf are 3 symbols, which you pick from to ‘help’ the wolf blow the house down.
These symbols are not what you’d expect… each causes an entertaining animation, before the wolf attempts to blow!
- Musical Note: Causes the wolf to do a cheesy disco dance.
- Num-chuks: The wold will perform a few ninja moves.
- Bill Sign: A quick flamenco dance, followed by waving a red cape.

You have 2 shots at blowing each house down. If you succeed, a pig is revealed, who will run to the next house. You get a prize for every blow. If you fail to destroy the house, the picks game ends.
While this is a simple picks game underneath – it is a very entertaining animation, and well worth checking out.
Piggies and the Wolf Slot Base Game / Setup
Despite all the fancy animation work and endearing story line, this is a solid PlayTech slot at heart. This time you get 50 win-lines, which cost you from 1c a spin each and up from there.
You’ll find Turbo mode and Auto Play (which are standard for the latest PlayTech slots).
The big bad wolf wild symbol has the single biggest prize. This character is worth a cool 2500 coins for 5 of a kind. He does appear stacked on the reels, and so often creates multiple wins from a single spin. Next on the pay-outs come the 3 little pigs – each with a house. There is a cool one in shades (brick house), one with a wood house and a banjo, and a dumb looking one for the straw house.
There are some playing card symbols for smaller wins – though these are all decorated!
Design of the Piggies and the Wolf Slots
I have played almost every PlayTech slot by now and would rate this design up there with the best. On first view, things look simple enough. You get a wood house framing the reels, some countryside music and cheeky pigs as symbols.
It is the animations when you win which make this slot worth a spin. These are good in the base game – though in the free spins they really come to life. Watch the wolf chase off a pig and you’ll almost forget about the trail of wilds for laughing.
The picks game has some great animations too. My favourite of those is when you choose the bull-head icon… when the pigs get revealed, things can take unexpected turns.
Is Piggies and the Wolf a Big Bad Slot?
Add this one to your must-play list – even if you don’t normally go for the fairy-tale style of slots. The action comes thick and fast, the story line is engaging, and the animations top it all.
This PlayTech slot is not all about the animated gimmicks, there are plenty of chances to win big along the way. The best of these is the free spins bonus – where a line of wilds (together with stacked wilds on some reels) can literally trigger 10’s of wins from the same spin.
