Who Wants to be a Millionaire Slot Review - Ash Gaming

Settle into the Hot Seat and Enjoy This Lively Game Show Slot

Who Wants to be a Millionaire Slot ReviewI can’t believe this TV show is already more than a decade old! From prime-time slots back in 2002, Who Wants to be a Millionaire conquered the world – and then slowly became established as a daytime staple.

If you missed out on the millions, then why not try the online slot version. There are no general knowledge questions to answer, though you do get to sit in the ‘hot seat’ and climb that famous ladder of prizes. At the very top, you will find a progressive jackpot!

Chris Tarrant does not feature on the reels of this game. You will find plenty of references to the show. This is a licensed slot, and not a copy or knock-off. At different points you’ll use lifelines, be asked for your final answer, and hear the dramatic heart-beat sound effect that used to kick-in when the pressure was highest.

3 Dramatic Bonus Games: Part#1 – The WWTBAM Prize Ladder

The best of the bonuses is gives you access to some giant-sized prizes – up to and including a progressive jackpot. This is based on the main game from the TV show, only without any questions to answer.

You’ll see the 4 answers below the reels, the prize ladder on the right and your lifelines (phone a friend, ask the audience and 50:50) on the left. You trigger this game with 3 or more of the special bonus symbols. If you get 4 or 5 of these on the triggering spin, you will get some extra advances. These are free jumps up the prize ladder. Between 3 and 5 of them are awarded before you start the main game.

Once you start, you’ll see 4 answers on the bottom of the screen these say: Advance, Advance 2 (or sometimes 3), Collect or Mystery.

There is some strategy, for example, if you see 3 of the ‘Collect’ (game ends) answers and only one ‘Advance’, then you might want to use your lifelines. If the ratio is reversed, then you might be more inclined to save them for another time.

When you hit play, the answers light up in a loop – stopping on one at random. If this is a mystery, then you get 2 more options which flash at random.

Warning: You can’t always trust the audience! On two separate occasions I asked the audience, only to find they game me the wrong answer! The 50:50 removes 2 of the answers, and phone a friend sometimes removes 2 and sometimes selects one (final) answer.

Bonus Game #2: Free Spins with Walking Countdown Wilds

You can win up to 20 free spins by hitting 3, 4 or 5 of the special free spins scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. When this kicks in the background changes to a purple hue. More importantly, the wilds get a lot better. This uses the countdown concept from the gameshow.

What happens is that wilds get a number depending on which reel they land on (from 1 to 5). After each free spin, these wilds shift one reel to the left, with their number going down by 1. You can get several wilds walking over the reels to the left at once. This can bring in some big wins, particularly if you get more than one on each reel.

Prize Pick Game: Is That Your Final Answer?

The final bonus game is simpler than the other two, this stays on the reels, and gives you a chance to confirm your answer to the famous question: Is that your final answer?

You will see ‘prize pick’ scatter symbols. If 3 or more of these land on the reels, you get to select one of them – then confirm (or switch!). This shows a cash prize, and you will also get to see the prizes for the other symbols before you go back to the main game.

Bonus Choices Who Wants to be a Millionaire Slot

Regular Wins and Setup

With all these bonus games, it can be easy to overlook that this is a regular 5-line video slot underneath. There are 50 win-lines – which covers most of the possibilities going from left to right on a 3-row setup. You can bet in units of 50c. If the play is too slow for you, then check out the ‘Turbo Mode’ which gives the game a significant boost!

Regular wins are topped by the wild symbols. These show part of the TV set (or at least a picture representing it) and will get you 5,000 coins for 5 of a kind. The Who Wants to Be a Millionaire logo comes next. This is the original logo from the TV show and has a maximum prize of 2500 coins.

The ask the audience poll results follows at 500 coins for 5, with money signs and question marks completing the higher paying symbols – worth 200 coins each for the max 2. All the symbols covered so far pay prizes for 2 of a kind and over.

Lower paying symbols are items from the show – and not the usual playing card filler symbols. These include the 3 lifelines, a cheque for $1 million and the famous chair / hot seat.

Bright In-Your-Face Slot Design

Many slots are bright and hectic, though few manage to be as in your face as Who Wants to be a Millionaire from Ash Gaming. I mean this in a positive sense, since the original TV show was brash, loud and unashamedly over the top.

The music from the show compliments the many visual references. I like the TV set look to the frame of the reels. Those reels are neon / blocky and work really well. There are not too many slots where the audience react to your wins. Usually, if I get a big win, I am the only one clapping and cheering. Here, the audience clap and / or cheer every single win!!

Should You Sit in the Hot Seat?

Fans of the TV series, or gameshow slots in general will find this one offers everything you could ask for. There is a shot at a progressive jackpot, elements from the show woven seamlessly into the game – and 50 win-lines to keep those regular wins coming.

The highlight is the prize ladder, though you won’t’ need any general knowledge to progress. Smart use of your lifelines, a few free advances and a little bit of luck could see you hitting the big money. When you approach the progressive at the top, you may well be feeling as much pressure as the contestants on the original TV show!
