Discover Why Party Steps Sit N Goes Are Great Value And Find Strategy Tips To Maximize Your Profits
This article is the first in a series of 4 that will cover Party Poker Steps Strategy. Steps SNG tournaments are a great way for players to turn a small investment into one big payday – they have the added advantage of offering great value to those players looking to gain experience in SNG play, as many of the prizes involve re-entering the steps Sit n Go ladder.
We will with an overview... what exactly are steps SNGs and are they worth playing?
The idea of these is that you enter Sit and Go tournaments that, instead of awarding cash prizes, award entry into a higher buy-in Sit and Go. There are a total of 6 levels starting at the $3 buy-in level and going right up to $500... The last step (Step 6) pays huge cash prizes ($2000 to the winner).
There are 2 reasons you might want to play:
- Money! A chance of a huge prize for a limited entry cost.
- Playing Experience.
The nature of Party Poker Steps Sit N Goes is that you will often move down the steps ‘ladder’ as well as up it, this means you can actually get a lot of play for your initial outlay – helping to build SNG experience.

Party Poker Steps Payout
Which aspects of adapting your normal SNG Strategy do we need to cover?
- More places are paid, this can go up to 8 places on certain steps! The cost of busting out early is higher - relatively speaking - compared to a standard Sit and Go Play.
- Some of the payouts Involve moving down the ‘steps ladder’. For Example, If you were to bust in 5th in a Step 4 Sit N Go you go back to Step 3. On paper you have lost $40 here, the question is how does the ‘backup’ cushion of almost half of your entry fee back affect the value of chips - and in turn your calling / pushing strategy??
- Equal prizes for the first 2 or 3. This should the late game play more like a Satellite qualifier tournament than a standard SNG bubble... what ICM (and other) adjustments would we need to make?
Part #2 of this series will begin to look at some of these important questions. Part #3 will then ask the question of whether it is worthwhile for an experienced SNG player to buy-in directly to one of the medium to high steps SNGs. This series will conclude with part #4 which will cover strategy for the final step – the one with the big cash payouts!
