Roadmap To SNG Success – A Sit N Go FAQ – Part #3
From SNG Beginner To Online Pro – This SNG FAQ Takes You Down The Road To Sit N Go Success – Part #3 – SNG Strategy!
by Mark
This is Part #3 of our SNG FAQ Series – this time we introduce some of the core concepts behind SNG Poker Strategy and show how and why this differs from poker strategy employed in cash games and multi-table tournaments.
Part #1 of this FAQ is an Introduction to SNG Poker, Part #2 brings in some critical Sit N Go money management concepts – the final part will introduce advanced SNG Strategy.
Why Is The Bubble So Critical To Profitable Sit N Go Play?
The nature of SNG Payout structures combined with a large number of mathematically ‘bad’ plays made by opponents, mean that correct strategy at the bubble is key to making profits from Sit n Go tournaments. Check out our SNG Bubble Play articles section for several articles on this important area.
What Is The Independent Chip Model And How Can This Help My Game?
The Independent Chip Model (ICM) uses your ‘equity’ in a SNG prize pool, instead of the number of chips you have, to help you make ‘good’ bubble decisions. This model shows whether a call or all-in poker move will show a profit over time based on the ranges of hands you estimate opponents will play in various situations. Using ICM will give you an instantly profitable edge against most lower-limit SNG opponents. Read our Introduction to ICM for SNGs for more information.
How Can I Make Improvements To My Overall Sit N Go Strategy?
Each stage of Sit N Go play involves different skills, from the tight early-stages through to the push-fold later game. Improving your overall SNG Strategy involves both experience at the tables as well as reading and trying out new concepts. Our detailed SNG Strategy section contains many articles and thought-provoking tips for both beginning and experienced SNG players.
Are SNG Software Tools Required For Profitable Play?
While it is possible to make a profit from SNG tournaments without software tools, investing in an ICM Calculator will give you an edge at the tables which would take many months (if not years!) to learn manually. There are several such tools on the market which will analyze your hand histories and show which hands you played ‘incorrectly’ according to the math. We recommend that you take the 30 day free trial of SNG Wizard, if the improvements are profitable for you then you can invest in this tool at the end of the free trial.
