SNG Money Management
Why Does Every Poker Player Need To Use Bankroll Management?
Poker is a game of skill– however the outcome of a single hand or session is very easily influenced by the chance dealing of cards. That is to say that poker can best be described as a game of skill over time.
To ensure that this random element does not lead to ‘gamblers ruin’, experienced players employ good poker tournament bankroll management. The number of SNG buy-ins required to play profitably will vary depending on many factors – however playing too far above your bankroll is a sure-fire way of going quickly broke!
Should I Choose Turbo Or Regular Sit N Goes?
Turbo SNGs allow you to play more games per hour, at the same time the faster blinds mean that there is less time for skill differences to become apparent – reducing your expected return from each game. Whether to choose turbo or regular Sit N Go tournaments depends on whether maximizing your ‘hourly rate’ is important to you. Our Introduction to hourly rates and ROI for SNG tournaments explains in more detail.
Why Is Learning To Multi-Table Important To SNG Profits?
Over time it is difficult to maintain a high enough ROI in SNG tournaments to make playing only a single table at a time a profitable use of your time. Most Sit N Go Players learn to play several tables at once – usually between 4 and 10. Adding more tables will reduce your profit from each game, at the same time as increasing your overall hourly rates. Read our detailed, 2-part guide on How To Multi-table SNG tournaments for more information.
What ROI Is Possible In SNG Tournament Play And
How Many Games Are Needed To Show An Accurate ROI Figure?
The 2007 SNG Survey showed the median return on investment (ROI) figure for high-volume SNG players at the various buy-in levels. ROI figures of 15% to 20% are possible at the lowest levels, while single figure ROI scores are expected at the middle to higher levels. Sample sizes of 1000+ are considered necessary before we can be confident that chance is no longer affecting ROI. See our Introduction to Hourly Rates and ROI for SNGs for more information.
