Gladiator Jackpot Slots: Coliseum Bonus
This is the main bonus feature. It is triggered when you hit 3 or more Coliseum symbols anywhere on the reels. These are scatter symbols, so their position is not important. You’ll get 100x your bet if you trigger the bonus with the maximum 5.
Next the reels disappear and are replaced with a view of the Coliseum. Symbols are replaced with stones – and you get to pick them. There are 4 rows and you start from the bottom. Here is what you can win:
- Row 1: Awards free spins
- Row 2: Awards a multiplier for your wins
- Row 3: Nominates an extra symbol to become a scatter
- Row 4: Nominates and extra symbol to be wild
Sometimes you’ll get a pick again message for extras. The combination of multipliers, scatters and wilds can make for a very profitable free spins games. This is so good, that PlayTech decided not to have the potential to retrigger this time. If you get a Caesar symbol on reel 3, you do extend your free spins total by 3.
Gladiator Jackpot Bonus
This is how you’ll win the big progressive – or some cash amounts. It is triggered by hitting 3 of the wild symbols (which show a Gladiator) on the middle 3 reels.
Once again, the reels disappear. This time you will see a grid of 9 Roman helmets. You pick them, in any order. Each one will reveal a cash prize, which is counted up in a gold band above the reels. If you are lucky enough to get 9 golden helmets, then the progressive jackpot is yours.
Setup and Line Hits for the Gladiator Slots
In contrast to the complexity of the main bonus game – the setup is straightforward. You’ll play over a 5x3 grid for the reels. There are 25 win-lines which cross from the left. Bets are variable, with 1c through to $10 per line (yep, $250 per spin!) all possible.
Next to the spin button, you’ll see one which says ‘Gamble’. This is an optional red / black pick which will either double your win or lose it. Auto-play is also available (though no Turbo mode this time).
Winning symbols are all characters from the movie. It has been so many years since I saw it, that I will just describe them here. Caesar has the biggest prize. This is worth 5000 coins for 5 of a kind, and together with the lady pays all the way down to 2 of a kind from the left. A wise looking senator comes next at 350 coins, with a guy in armour and bearded guy at 250.
Playing card symbols are used for the fillers, though these are all bright gold – rather than the mixed bold colours used in other slots.
Gladiator Movie Slot Design
Tie-ins with the movie are definitely lower key than on many more recent PlayTech slots. The main symbols look like pictures. When involved in a win, you see a few seconds of them in action from the film. Sounds are more on-topic than for most online slots.
Overall, this game is showing signs of its age. You’ll enjoy it for the game-play, rather than for the graphics.
Should You Play Gladiator Jackpot Slots the Roman Way?

Second, the game is surprisingly solid / enjoyable. If you can look beyond the somewhat dated design, there is a lot to like about the base game and the bonus rounds.
