OnGame Becomes the NYX Network

... and Announces a New Online Tournament Event for Xmas!

I have always liked OnGame. This network were pioneers in many ways, with the first mobile poker client and back in the day the first Mac download too. For whatever reasons they never quite broke through to the volume of players needed to really thrive – though the software is still great, games still soft and innovations like the Fishmarket and Grand Series of Poker kept things fresh.

There is no more OnGame Network – they are now called the NYX Poker Network after NYX Gaming bought them from Amaya (the owners of Stars / Tilt). This network is not open for US players.

To celebrate the name change, a new poker event called the ‘NYX Series’ has been announced.

In addition to cash prizes (plenty of them!), you can also win a seat in the Malta stop of the popular Grand Series of Poker – the original hybrid  live / online tournament event.

First below is an overview of the upcoming NYX Series event, followed by a quick look at NYX Gaming.

If you have not yet played on this network then I recommend Red Kings Poker. This solid smaller site has been around since the very beginning of the network, and offer some excellent promos including an extra $300 bonus the first time you get dealt the 2 red kings in a cash game (you will need to clear it), plus their infamous ‘FishMarket’ tournaments when they are running – see www.redkings.com for the latest offers.

OnGame becomes NYX Poker

NYX Poker Series I

The date for your diaries is the 17th of December, though there are satellite qualifiers (with added money / entries) going on already. The event runs through to the 23rd, though there is an extra free tournament for those who make the leaderboard on the 27th December.

In addition to the €180k in prizes, there are opportunities to win packages to the Grand Series of Poker in Malta. These packages will include tournament entry + some cash to cover your flight / expenses and hotel accommodation for 2.

What I like about the schedule is that the buy-ins are low (nothing wrong with some of the ‘bigger’ online tournament events, but hey, we do not all have $1000 for entry fees!), and there is a good mix of formats. All of the games kick off between 7pm and 9pm CET (European time).

NYX Poker Network – Who Are NYX Gaming?

NYX has been active in the development of casino games and bingo for many years. They have over 100 clients for their products and 300+ games (lots of them are real money slots). While the purchase of OnGame is the first time the poker world will have heard of NYX, they are well established in the (far bigger) casino vertical already. NYX has offices in Stockholm, Sydney and Las Vegas. In addition to creating their own games they partner with industry giants like Aristocrat to bring slots online.

What Does This Mean for the NYX Poker Network?

I’m optimistic… OnGame has been stagnant for a while now, with only the introduction of Fast Fold Poker via mobile devices standing out. Amaya already had 2 huge brands and did not seem to care about this network, and before that BWin / Party focused on bringing BWin into the Party Poker software.

NYX has acquired some great software, a small but loyal player base and some nice ideas (Grand / Fishmarket etc)… it will be interesting to see how things develop as we go into 2016!
