I was going to do a tongue-in-cheek post about using your opponent’s nationalities as an excuse to make certain plays today… Then Carbon Poker New Software was announced in official beta mode, so I just had to download it and have a look… not only is this version Mac-Compatible, Windows users get some great updates too, as you will see from the screenshot below….

…the design is fundamentally the same as before – which is a positive for me, the site looked great already!

Carbon Poker New Software Tournament Lobby

In fact, many of the changes in the Carbon Poker Software 5.0 Beta are quite subtle… for example in the old version the play money tables were in the same lists as the real money ones – making it harder to find the right games. Now both play money games and tournaments have their own tab, much better!

One big gripe I had with the old software was that the tournament lobbies (the ones for individual tournaments) took over the main window when opened. This is also fixed, with a new window for tournament lobbies.

Becoming a Beta Tester For The New Carbon Poker Software

 - If you already have an account then click ‘Player Admin’ from the bottom of the lobby, this opens up a web-page where you will see ‘5.0 Beta Software’ about half way down the list on the left… instructions follow.

Carbon Poker Mac Compatible Software

The new software client has a separate Mac download… while this will be available to download directly from the website once the user testing is over, at the moment Mac users will have to jump though one hoop in order to get the new software – you can only download the beta if you have an account at Carbon – and you can only create an account via the non-Mac existing 4.7 software client. If you are motivated and have an emulator then this should not be a big problem!
